MINNESOTA'S SECOND BIG REGIONAL

Minnesota players are fortunate to have two opportunities to earn some gold points in Open Regional competition!

In addition to the Gopher Regional which takes place in late May, the Med City Regional in Rochester will be taking place again this year in mid-September.  For 2025, those dates are September 15 to 20.  The flyer for this year's tournament is below; you can check out all the details by clicking on that flyer to expand it and open it in a new window - or just by clicking here.

The Med City Regional in Rochester this year features team games and pair games every day of the tournament; in addition, there's a special event on Monday (day 1) for new players.  This year, there's a "Chat Bridge" game (or "Supervised Play") for players with less than 20 masterpoints.  You can earn your first RED points at a major tournament in a comfortable and friendly surrounding - with mentors and advisors walking around the room to help with bidding, play, and more!  There's also a special rate of 1/2 off the normal entry fee for all new players.

We're back at the Empire Event Center, where the host hotel is 20 feet from the playing area - and everything is on one floor.  There's tons of free and convenient parking, dozens of nearby restaurants, and prizes for the winners every day.  Directions to the Empire Event Center can be found by clicking here.

There is a special hotel rate at the Best Western Mayo Clinic Hotel available for bridge players, with the hotel attached right to the playing area.  The Best Western site for reservations can be found by clicking here, or you can call them at 507-289-8866 and remember to ask for "MedCity" rate code.

For new, advancing, and intermediate players, our aim at the Rochester Med City Regional is to provide a week of learning - while offering red and gold points!  There is the Supervised Play (aka "Chat Bridge") on Monday at the tournament - you can play in one or both sessions, and at a special entry fee while earning some of those hard-to-get pigmented points.

There will also be the "Lunch and Learn" sessions each day Tuesday through Friday, with excellent teachers helping to provide tips and tricks to everyone interested in learning a bit more about this terrific game we play.  Those lessons will be held right in the playing area, so bring your lunch and learn a few things!

Don't forget the Gold Rush pairs, held every day of the tournament.  This two-session event provides Gold points and is limited to players with less than 750 masterpoints.  (As with any of the pairs events, you can play in just one of the two for the day if you would like!)

Bar Wijdicks is our Open Partnership Chair, and Connie Dalzell handles our Non-Life Master and Gold Rush partnerships.  If you're looking for someone to play with, give them a shout and they'll hook you up!  (Their emails are right on the flyer above.)
